Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship
The Foreign Affairs IT (FAIT) Fellowship recruits elite American talent to safeguard, advance, and modernize U.S. diplomatic infrastructure worldwide. Managed by the U.S. Department of State, this high-impact program builds a world-class corps of Foreign Service Diplomatic Technology Officers sworn to defend American interests abroad.
This fellowship is one of several high-profile Department of State diversity recruitment programs and is designed for highly talented individuals pursuing an IT-related undergraduate or graduate degree and are interested in a career in the Foreign Service.
The two-year fellowship program provides:
- Up to $43,500 annually (for two years) in academic funding for the last two years of a full-time bachelor’s degree program or a two-year full-time master’s degree program in an IT-related degree. This covers tuition, room and board, books, mandatory fees, and some travel expenses (see eligibility requirements).
- Stipends, housing, and travel allowances for the two summer internships: A domestic internship in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Department of State and an overseas internship at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
- Personalized mentoring and professional development opportunities throughout the program.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship program and the State Department’s entry requirements, fellows receive an appointment in the Foreign Service as a Diplomatic Technology Officer. Fellows agree to a five-year commitment when they enter the Foreign Service.
Designed to attract the best tech talent to the Foreign Service that reflects the diversity of the United States, the FAIT Fellowship program values varied backgrounds, including ethnic, racial, gender, and geographic diversity. Members of minority groups underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and individuals with financial need are encouraged to apply.
To apply for this cohort, students must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time IT-related bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a U.S.-based accredited institution.
