College of Engineering creates access for high school students through national program

The Padnos College of Engineering is part of a new program that provides ways for high school students to receive college credit.

PCE is included in the first cohort of Engineering 4 Us All’s (e4usa) NSF Credit and Placement Initiative, which is focused on providing access and value to learners. Engineering 4 US All is a nonprofit high school engineering program that opens engineering to a new generation of students and educators. with a focus on reaching all communities and preparing students for success in the field.

GVSU is the first university in Michigan to offer this opportunity. PCE faculty Catherine Molloseau, Phil Hittepole, Nick Baine and Lindsay Corneal collaborated to adapt an undergraduate engineering course that aligns with the e4usa high school curriculum.

High school students can earn credit in EGR 100 (Introduction to Engineering) by completing e4usa’s +Design course or their +Legacy course with a grade of B or higher and submitting their design portfolio for review. There is no cost to the student and they must be admitted to GVSU to earn the credit.
